The Importance of Art

"Tax dollars should not be wasted on art, music or theater classes in high school. Public high schools should be about training young people to enter the workforce. Period."

I do not agree with this statement for many reasons. Firstly, the statement only says that tax dollars shouldn't be spent on art, but says nothing about sports. If "public high schools should be about training young people to enter the workforce," then the tax dollars shouldn't be supporting athletics either.
Another thing I disagree with is that the workforce can include the arts. Many people pursue a career in the arts, and we have many different types of entertainment because of these people. Because there are people who are brave enough to go into a career within the arts, we have many different tv shows, movies, music, etc. I think the arts are a very important part of high school because even if a high schooler isn't super artistic, they could still find a passion they didn't know they had.
For me, art is an escape from reality. It helps me focus on something away from my problems, which is a really good thing to do. I usually overthink all of my problems, so having that escape is something that really helps me. I think that it if it weren't for art classes I would've never found that hidden passion that I had.
I appreciate the fact that some tax dollars go towards the arts, and that credits in the arts are required to graduate high school. I think that they are a very important part of high school.
